A DWP minister has apologised after a mum-of-three had her benefits stopped for two months - because she was a victim of fraud.
The unnamed woman, from Croydon, received an apology in the House of Commons after her Universal Credit was axed because of a fraudulent claim made in her name.
Her Labour MP Sarah Jones told the Commons: "She was completely innocent but her and her young family suffered significant financial hardship." DWP minister Will Quince apologised - and admitted staff had been taken off the fraud team to work on claims during the pandemic.
It comes after the National Audit Office said fraud and error in the benefit system hit its highest ever level just before coronavirus struck.
