Drivers have been warned that they could end up losing as much as £2,500 this weekend as the heatwave threatens to unleash an epidemic of car problems.Holidaymakers hoping to make the most of the sun are now being urged to make a few final checks on their motor before setting off on long journeys to make sure it is safe to drive.Failure to do so could see them slapped with with a fine of up £2,500 and 3 points on their licence for using their vehicle in a dangerous condition, according to motor firm Leasing Options.The word to the wise comes after Met Office issued a Level 2 health warning for the end of the week with temperatures set to soar to 34C by Friday afternoon (June 17).

One of the most common problems to hit unlucky drivers on the road is a slow tyre puncture, which can go without being noticed for a long time.Warning signs include a vehicle pulling to one side when driving straight or vibration on a steering wheel.
