David Whittaker, 33, bit, punched, throttled and shouted homophobic abuse at three TravelSafe officers in St Peter's Square in Manchester city centre, a court heard.

The incident on the evening of 5 June was sparked by the staff telling Whittaker, of Chapel Lane, Stretford, not to smoke on the platform.
