Dramatic aerial footage shows extent of flooding in Scots town as river breaks its banks

Dramatic aerial footage has revealed the extent of the flooding in Dumfries after a river burst its banks. At around 1pm on Thursday emergency services warned residents that the banks of the River Nith, which runs throw the town, had burst.

A local captured shocking scenes from the sky as water poured out of the river and into surrounding streets.John Blandford shared the drone footage online, which showed fast-moving water close to submerging some trees.The four-minute clip reveals the extent of the flooding, with a number of homes and businesses affected by heavy rainfall.The Whitesands area, which is shown in the video, has been closed off by emergency services.Locals were warned not to enter Shakespeare Street and Irish Street.
