A drama student was locked up for 10 years today for killing a pensioner he helped home from the pub. Rhys Reynolds, 20, met 72-year-old Tony McCorry in his local in Boldmere, West Midands, last December.

He attacked the dad-of-two after walking him home and rang friends to say he had “done something terrible”. But he failed to call an ambulance despite carrying out the “sustained and serious” assault on his victim.

A female friend took a taxi to the property after tracing the location through Reynolds’s Snapchat app and dialled 99. A post-mortem examination found injuries to Mr McCorry's throat and fractures to his ribs and sternum.
