DOCTOR Who's new companion was announced on Children In Need as she stepped out of the iconic Tardis. Ex Coronation Street actress Millie Gibson, 18, will take on the coveted role next year alongside the 15th doctor played by Sex Education star Ncuti Gatwa.

Excited Millie, who played Kelly Neelan in ITV soap Corrie, told Children In Need presenters Mel Giedroyc and Jason Manford: "It's insane.

I'm so honoured that I was considered for an audition. "I just hope I can make you all happy and fill the boots of the other companions." Millie also revealed her character is called Ruby Sunday, but joked that she couldn't confirm if it was "Sundae like the ice cream" or the day of the week.
