The first reactions to Disney's live-action remake of Mulan are in and they tease some surprising scenes. The new film is a remake of the classic 1998 animated classic of the same name, but also takes direct inspiration from the Ballad of Hua Mulan, the Chinese folklore that inspired the original film.

Liu Yifei stars as Mulan, a young woman who seeks to save her ailing father from fighting in the Imperial Army and disguises herself as a man to fight northern invaders in China in the battle of a lifetime.

Mulan had its world premiere on Monday (March 9) and the first reactions quickly made their way onto social media - and the response was overwhelmingly positive to the new take on the character.
