Swindon players were attacked by groups of Port Vale fans who had invaded the pitch on Thursday night.The Vale are through to the final to face Mansfield with a chance to reach League One in an incredible story for the club.
But celebrations have turned sour yet again in a sad week for football. Former Manchester United striker James Wilson scored the only goal of the night in the eighth minute to see the aggregate scores levelled and that was enough to take the match to penalties.
In a shootout that went to sudden death, it was Ellis Iandolo with the moment of heartbreak after skying his effort. That was enough for Port Vale to secure victory and fans immediately rushed the pitch - as has become unnervingly customary in recent years.
While the majority rushed towards the players to celebrate, there was a minority of morons who were only looking for trouble.As the Swindon players made their way off the pitch, they were confronted by a group of supporters while the scene turned ugly.
