But they were unable to take that impressive form into Europe, losing 2-1 to Young Boys despite taking an early lead through Cristiano Ronaldo's third goal of the season.
A red card for Aaron Wan-Bissaka put United on the back foot for much of the second half, and the home side's pressure eventually told as Moumi Ngamaleu and Theoson Siebatcheu condemned United to defeat.
