NFL confirmed on Wednesday (June 8) the Broncos would be sold to the Walter-Penner family in a deal worth £3.7billion - just shy of the £4.25billion Todd Boehly paid to buy Chelsea.
The bidding party includes billionaire Rob Walton, heir to the Walmart retail fortune, and Walmart chairperson Greg Penner, Walton's son-in-law through his marriage to Carrie Walton Penner, who is also part of the bidding team.
Being the son of two sex therapists from California, Greg Penner had a rather different upbringing to his father-in-law. The 52-year-old began his career at Goldman Sachs before joining Walmart as a management trainee.
He held a number of positions throughout the company, including senior vice president of finance and strategy for Walmart.com and chief financial officer for the firm in Japan.He has worked his way right up to the top and was named chairperson of the company in 2015.
