Denise Van Outen has thanked the Daily Star for making her a household name. The telly favourite hit the big time with her breakthrough 90s role on the Big Breakfast on Channel 4 alongside Johnny Vaughan. But she has praised the nation’s favourite paper in her new memoirs for helping her on her way to a glittering showbiz career.Denise, 47, gushed: "For a while, during that time, my face seemed to be everywhere."My picture was in the Daily Star so often that Johnny started calling it 'The Daily Denise'."It was what was she wearing, what was she doing."The Celebrity Gogglebox favourite even has a chapter in her new book A Bit of Me titled 'The Daily Denise'.But the star, currently reeling from her split from fiance Eddie Boxshall, admitted she wasn’t always partying at the height of her fame. She said: "The truth of it was, I wasn’t doing much of anything apart from working."I had this fantastic elaborate lifestyle from the outside looking in, but in truth, when I wasn’t working, I was sitting in my little flat and going to bed early."By that point, I was hardly going out at all because I was just too tired."If I did go out, it was to the local shop to get a pint of milk or a bog roll when I got home at 10.30am, and by that time, most people who watched the show were at work, school or uni."Nobody saw me!

That said, I think some of my neighbours must have thought I was on the game, coming home in some of the outfits I did at that time in the morning."They’d see me getting out of a cab, mid-morning, in PVC trousers, tiny little tops and the occasional feather boa around my neck."I’m sure some of them, who’d never seen the show, must have wondered what on earth I was doing dressed like that."For more of the latest showbiz news.
