death row inmate was given a ribeye steak and shrimps as his final meal before being executed by lethal injection.Carman Deck, 56, was given the slap-up meal at 1pm, with the controversial inmate executed five hours later at the state prison in Bonne Terre, Missouri. His execution was shrouded in controversy after having his sentence for the murders of elderly couple James and Zelma Long in 1996 overturned three times since he carried out the brutal killings in July 1996.He shot both James and Zelma in the head after he and his sister stopped at their home, pretending to ask for directions.Deck was given a lethal injection and pronounced dead ten minutes later, with the prisoner feasting on a lavish meal just hours before his death at the state prison.Reports indicate that the final meal was quite the feast for the murderer, with a ribeye steak, shrimp, asparagus, salad with Italian dressing, cottage cheese and V-8 Juice all included in the meal.Deck is the fifth person to be executed this year in the United States and his fate was sealed after Missouri Governor Mike Parson refused to offer the prisoner any leniency. In a statement, Parson said: "Mr Deck has received due process, and three separate juries of his peers have recommended sentences of death for the brutal murders he committed."The State of Missouri will carry out Mr Deck's sentence according to the Court's order and deliver justice." Deck's sentence had been overturned by the Missouri Supreme Court in 1998 when it was found Deck's attorney had committed serious errors during the trial.A second death penalty ruling was thrown out in 2005 when it was decided the jury had been prejudiced by seeing Deck in shackles, and a third was annulled in 2008 after a trial.
