They’re the best in town, even if it’s a small town. Will anything slow down Taika Waititi? Since the mainstream success of 2014’s “What We Do In The Shadows,” it’s been one success after another for the New Zealand star.

You know what could have been really lame? “What We Do In The Shadows,” the TV series spin-off of Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi’s excellent Sundance vampire mockumentary from 2014 (the film that got the latter filmmaker on the radar of people like Marvel‘s Kevin Feige). Now, film to TV is pretty common these days, but ‘Shadows’ is very particular about its brand of comedy and minor, but still important VFX.

Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool makes a smashing MCU entry and while it's not the most conventional way of entering the Marvel universe, it certainly a funnier one. To promote their upcoming film, Free Guy which hits the theatres next month, Reynolds and Taika Waititi came together in their comic-book character avatars of Deadpool and Korg to create a hilarious reaction video.Sharing the video on his Instagram, Reynolds called it his character entry and wrote, "DP is officially in the MCU! He’s starting with reaction videos, then some social influencer work, onto Parks appearances all leading up to some after-credit work by 2030." In the video, Deadpool introduces his guest, Korg saying, "This is Korg who was not my first choice.

OK, this is very odd, perhaps a strange sign of the times ahead of us where everything is under one branded-content monopoly. Following the Disney-owns-20th Century Fox synergy of “The Simpsons” and Marvel crossovers (the latest being a Loki-themed ‘Simpson’s short), the marketing heads at Disney (or just Ryan Reynolds, probably) have created a genius new marketing plan for “Free Guy” that’s also a little odd.

FX’s ongoing spinoff series of the same name (Season 3 premieres Sept. 2) is set in the same world and follows different vampire roommates living on Staten Island.
