Dad's fury as ex-footballer battles brain tumour in prison despite 'innocence'

A furious dad says his son could die behind bars as he battles against cancer- even though police and prosecutors say he faces no further action over allegations which saw him recalled to prison.

Former Newcastle United, Sunderland and Wrexham footballer Daniel Staples, 30, is being treated for a brain tumour behind bars.

Daniel already undergone surgery and has 12 months of chemotherapy ahead of him, Chronicle Live reports. Staples was jailed in 2016 after admitting blackmail and witness intimidation after he demanded cash in order not to publish naked photographs of a woman online.
