A Wigan dad led police on a “reckless and extreme” chase the night before his baby was born. Ryan Pinkney reached speeds of almost 70mph in a residential zone during the pursuit on April 25.

A patrolling officer was driving towards Bolton at around 9.50pm when he noticed Pinkney in a Ford Mondeo. The officer signalled for the 30-year-old to stop after checks revealed he was not the registered keeper of the vehicle.

Pinkney was driving down Bury Road and then Ainsworth Lane when the officer turned on his lights. But instead of stopping, Pinkney sped up, went straight over a crossroads and drove the wrong way down a one-way system before crashing into another vehicle.
