United missed out last season after a dire campaign, which saw them finish sixth in the Premier League. A host of clubs are expected to line up for Ronaldo's signature, including Bayern Munich and Napoli.
And according to The Athletic, Chelsea are also interested. The Blues are entering into the first transfer window under new owner Todd Boehly, and are said to be eager to make a showpiece signing to prove the new regime means business.
Raheem Sterling has been linked, with the Manchester City forward expected to depart the Etihad.Chelsea officials are believed to have met Ronaldo's agent Jorge Mendes last month and discussed a potential move for the serial Ballon d'Or winner, though United are still adamant their main man will be going nowhere.
