Cristiano Ronaldo's mother Dolores Aveiro gifted the Pope a shirt of his son's after a visit to the Vatican City. The Manchester United star’s mum met the head of the Catholic church on Wednesday morning.
She had travelled for the Pope’s General Audience, which is a weekly occasion where His Holiness greets members of the public to offer his guidance. And during their meeting, Dolores handed Pope Francis a shirt of her son’s Ronaldo, while speaking on social media. In one post, she said she was “ready to receive the Pope’s blessing” while a picture of the two was captioned: “A very unique emotion, thank you.”The Pope was beaming to be receiving the Portugal kit while Ronaldo’s mother looked equally as happy to be involved in such a moment. But this is not the first time that the 85-year-old has been gifted a football shirt - with another player potentially closer to his heart.
Born Jorge Mario Bergoglio in Flores, Buenos Aires, the Pope has also received Lionel Messi’s top - a national icon in Argentina.
And the Paris Saint-Germain star's holy compatriot has admitted that he is a big fan of the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner, insisting that the 34-year-old is better than Pele and Diego Maradona.
