Cristiano Ronaldo reportedly made it clear to Manchester United in January that he would leave if Ralf Rangnick was made permanent manager.Rangnick was appointed interim manager in December following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s sacking.
The German was expected to steady the ship but widespread reports of discontent among the squad quickly spread as morale dropped.Red Devils icon Ronaldo enjoyed a successful season personally in his return to the Premier League, though it quickly became clear the 37-year-old did not suit Rangnick’s style.
And the club’s continued woeful performances have increasingly led to question marks surrounding the Portugal captain’s future.
It has now been revealed by ESPN that Ronaldo warned United’s board he would leave if Rangnick stayed on beyond this season.
