Families were slapped with £200 fines after police officers found them enjoying a barbecue breaching Covid-regulations. Despite freezing temperatures and gusts of up to 40mph, the group took the opportunity for a barbeque on the snow-covered moors above Waskerley, County Durham.

Police handed out five £200 fines following reports of 13 people gathering for the traditional summer activity on Thursday. When officers arrived, they found five adults from three different households, along with eight children, who had travelled around 20 miles from their homes in Gateshead, reports Chronicle Live.
