A new Covid-19 variant is believed to be the "most evolved strain" of the virus and could be escaping existing vaccinations, scientists have warned.
The B.11.529 variant has an "extremely high number" of mutations and is believed to have first emerged in Botswana with cases now being identified in South Africa and Hong Kong.
Despite just 10 cases of the mutated virus being found so far through genomic sequencing, experts believe its identification in three countries suggest it is more widespread, reports The Mirror.
It has 32 mutations in total and scientists worry the virus has mutated enough to escape the effectiveness of current vaccines, helping it evade immunity.
