It comes after the council tweeted a picture on Monday evening (May 24) of the cenotaph bathed in purple light with the message ‘#Rochdale landmarks will be lit purple tomorrow eve commemorating the 1st anniversary of the death of #George Floyd’.
George Floyd was an African-American man murdered in the street by a police officer, who knelt on his back and neck during an arrest in Minneapolis.
