Coronavirus Scotland: 28 new deaths recorded as fatalities surge across country

Get the stories that interest you straight to your inbox every day with our personalised newsletterA further 28 new coronavirus deaths have been recorded in Scotland overnight, the highest daily figure since May 21, the Scottish Government has announced.Another 1,739 Scots have also tested positive for the virus as cases continue to rise across the country.Some 873 patients are currently being treated in hospital, an increase of 49 overnight, while 73 remain in intensive care.In Ayrshire and Arran, a further 105 positive cases have been recorded.It comes as Nicola Sturgeon confirmed the closure of pubs and restaurants in Ayrshire will be extended by a week.Along with other high risk regions in the Central Belt, the Scottish Government said.
