The coronavirus epidemic in the UK is expected to peak within the next fortnight, England’s deputy chief medical officer has said.
As of 9am Tuesday, there have been 373 confirmed cases of coronavirus in the UK after a total of 26,261 people have been tested.
A sixth death in the UK has also been recorded. Dr Jenny Harries has defended the government's decision to not yet enforce stringent tactics to help tackle the spread of the virus, however said that new measures aimed at protecting the elderly and vulnerable are expected as cases rise more rapidly.
The government has said the UK is still in the 'containment' phase, saying experts are assessing new cases on an hourly basis to achieve a "balanced response".
