The number of daily coronavirus cases on average has fallen across the UK on the whole but infections have risen in the Midlands, new research show.

There are currently on average 35,963 daily new cases of Covid-19 in the UK over the two weeks leading up to November 1, according to the ZOE COVID Symptom Study UK Infection Survey.

Tim Spector, Professor of Genetic Epidemiology at King's College London, urged caution but said in light of numbers falling and the news of a vaccine, "it feels like the end is in sight." The figures are based on swab tests and do not include infections in care homes.

The data released on Friday shows with 7,671 daily average cases the Midlands is the only region in the UK that has seen an increase in infections.
