Conor McGregor insists he's still champion as Khabib Nurmagomedov ceremony never happened

Conor McGregor has claimed he still considers himself to be the UFC lightweight champion, despite losing to rival Khabib Nurmagomedov by submission in their UFC 229 title showdown back in 2018.

McGregor has only fought once since that defeat, a 40-second TKO win over Donald Cerrone last January, and he is currently gearing up to return to the Octagon on January 24 for a rematch with Dustin Poirier.

Speaking to ESPN, McGregor said: "I am the champion, the unified title was never crowned that time in October 2018; Khabib fled the cage and left me fighting with his family members. "The post fight ceremony never took place so I still feel like I'm the champion and I'll go in and prove that.
