Google has honoured Superman actor and disability activist Christopher Reeve today on what would be his 69th birthday. Born Christopher D'Olier Reeve, the actor portrayed Superman in 1978 and 1980, and later suffered a horrible accident while horse riding, leaving him paralysed.While taking part in an equestrian competition, Mr Reeve was thrown from his horse.The accident results in him being paralysed from the shoulders down and requiring a ventilator for the rest of his life.Reeve did return to film, directing the In the Gloaming (1997) and starring in the TV remake of Rear Window (1998).Before the accident, Reeve was known for declining larger roles instead of appearing in a smattering of films and plays with more complex.
