Chelsea were reportedly just one step away from completing a move for highly-rated goalkeeper Gabriel Slonina before the club were placed under government sanctions.Following a three-month ownership saga, the Blues have finally been bought out by a consortium headed by American business Todd Boehly, in an eye-watering £4.25billion deal.

The takeover is expected to bring an end to the UK sanctions placed on the west London outfit that prohibited them from offering new contracts, signing new players or, remarkably, even selling items in the club shop.Whilst under the ownership of Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich, the Blues had been operating under a special government licence - which was set to expire on May 31st.It has been a tough few months for Chelsea.

As well as losing their second cup final of the season, the Blues also surrendered star man Antonio Rudiger to Real Madrid - the German ace had been willing to enter negotiations over a new contract but the sanctions imposed on the club made a renewal impossible. Now, in another blow to Thomas Tuchel's side, it appears they have lost yet another player to the newly crowned Champions League winners.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano reports that the Blues were one step away from agreeing a long-term contract for Chicago Fire shot-stopper Gabriel Slonina, but talks broke down due to UK sanctions.HAVE YOUR SAY!
