Chelsea have announced the signing of Kalidou Koulibaly on a four-year deal from Napoli, as Todd Boehly continues to signal his intent to take his newly-acquired club to the very top.The Senegal international fetched a fee of £33.5million as he heads to the Premier League for the first time in his career.
Koulibaly made 317 appearances for Napoli over the course of eight years, winning the Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana in that time.
The 31-year-old has largely been considered one of the best central defenders in Europe and other top European sides have been linked with holding an interest in acquiring his services previously.
And with one year left of his contract at Napoli, Chelsea seized the opportunity to provide Thomas Tuchel with some much-needed strength in defence.Koulibaly underwent a medical in London on Thursday before flying out to Las Vegas thane next day to meet with his new team as they continue their pre-season preparations.
