But the Reds captain's delight soon disintegrated as the goal was ruled out after a lengthy VAR check found Mane was offside in the build-up.
To the naked eye, the Senegalese appeared to be in line with Everton defenders Yerry Mina and Michael Keane, but the lines drawn during the check judged him to have been offside.
