Car scam gang lured victims on eBay before robbing them with machetes and threatening to 'chop them into pieces', trial hears

For the latest Oldham news sign up to the MyOldham newsletter here A gang used fake eBay car sales to lure innocent users before brutally robbing them, a jury heard.

The "honey in a trap" crimes allegedly took place across Manchester between September 2019 and February 2020. Victims were violently set upon after falsely purchasing cars using the shopping website eBay.

After exchanging calls and messages, they organised to meet with the seller, some travelling from Scotland and Belfast. But unbeknown to them, they were actually walking right into an alleged vicious scam – with one man robbed of £16,000.

Mohammed Nazir, Mohammed Fareed, Debra Brooker, Faisal Farid and Maros Petik, all from Oldham, are on trial accused with the offences.
