Campaigners demand new strategy to help exploited women quit prostitution in Scotland

prostitution. In a hard-hitting report, Encompass researchers claim support to exit the sex industry has been “hit and miss” and “piecemeal”, despite the Scottish Government ’s pledge to help women leave prostitution, which it defines as a form of violence against women.

The report reveals there are just eight agencies offering this support – despite the rocketing numbers of women who are desperate to leave the sex industry.

Heather Williams, the national co-ordinator for Encompass, said local authorities needed to be supported to deliver services which can help women leave the sex industry and find other employment.She said: “Women cannot wait for further reviews and scoping exercises before concrete steps are taken to agree a national.
