One of Britain’s biggest unions is calling on ministers to ban fire-and-rehire tactics. Unite is also opposing the practice, already illegal in Ireland and Spain, by coordinating strikes.
The union is representing members in disputes with employers including Go North West buses and Goodlord lettings. At least 400 Manchester-based GNW drivers have already been striking in protest at extra hours of work for no extra wages.
Staff at London-based Goodlord made similar allegations. It comes after British Gas dismissed hundreds of staff for not agreeing to longer hours.
