Callous crooks target Wigan fire station while brave emergency crews were risking lives on 999 call

Police are investigating after firefighters' kit was stolen from Atherton Fire Station as emergency crews raced out on an 999 call last night It is believed the culprits lay in wait until engines left on a call - then slipped into the building before the automatic doors closed.

A kit bag, yellow helmet, a fleece and other pieces of kit were stolen in the raid on Gloucester Street.
