Call the Midwife star shares complaint to co-star wife about BBC storyline

The actor, 59, has played Dr Patrick Turner since the series began in 2012 and recently confessed to his wife Heidi Thomas, who is the writer and creator of the period drama, what he didn't like about filming.He explained to his wife, 59, that he didn't like acting with babies during the Covid-19 pandemic.Due to the pandemic, it wasn't safe for real babies to be on set, therefore the stars of the show found themselves acting with dolls and fake babies which had to be disguised using blankets.Speaking at the BFI and Radio Television Festival, he explained that he missed having real babies on set."They know I am soppy because I love a baby, I am one of those blokes, I couldn’t pick a baby up in the early years of my life," he said.He added: "And then I had a child, and sometimes nurses and the midwifery nurses are like ‘Oh just give him the baby’ while the mums are eyeing me up still."In response, Heidi admitted that this was the first time her husband had said anything about a storyline she had written for him."When I created the series, obviously we are married, and we have been for years, but he never ever in all this time commented on his storyline.

That he didn’t like it or want more. The only thing he has ever said to me is ‘I haven’t held a baby in ages’."Steven added: “I held a baby last week, and I was like ‘Yay’.
