Manchester and neighbouring authorities are moving forward with a Clean Air Zone which will see drivers of heavily-polluting vehicles charged in a bid to improve air quality.
Air pollution, primarily caused by vehicle emissions, is said to contribute to 1,200 deaths a year in Greater Manchester, and the government has required councils to act as soon as possible.
