Britney Spears’ father is reportedly looking for a payment of about $2m before he is willing to step down from his role as her conservator.

In a direct criticism of the singer’s father, her legal team branded the demands for money as being akin to ‘extortion’. According to court documents submitted by lawyer Mathew Rosengart Jamie Spears has asked for significant payments for him. ‘Britney Spears will not be extorted,’ the filing says. ‘Mr Spears’s blatant attempt to barter suspension and removal in exchange for approximately $2 million in payments, on top of the millions already reaped from Ms Spears’s estate by Mr Spears and his associates, is a non-starter.’ A representative for Jamie Spears has not yet commented but he has in the past
