Boy, 15, arrested after OAP, 74, fly-kicked into freezing river in 'shocking' incident

A teenager suspected of fly-kicking a pensioner into the River Mersey has been arrested by police. The 74-year-old victim was sent flying headfirst into the water after being kicked from behind during the sickening incident which was filmed on Sunday, April 25.

A Cheshire Police spokesperson confirmed this evening a 15-year-old boy has been detained on suspicion of assault and possession with intent to supply cannabis.

He is currently in police custody. Disturbing footage of the incident reportedly shows a youth dressed in a black gilet kicking the victim while he stands overlooking the water.

The force is continuing to appeal for people to come forward with information as it works to identify a second suspect. A police spokesperson said:
