Speaking at a Downing Street press conference, the Prime Minister announced people in those groups will be offered the second dose eight weeks after the first.
It comes after the rise in cases of the Indian variant - particularly in places such as Bolton and Sefton in Merseyside. Until now, those who have received the first dose of a coronavirus vaccine had to wait twelve weeks before being able to attend for their second dose.
