Boris Johnson has admitted that the Eat Out to Help Out scheme may have contributed to the spread coronavirus - but insisted it was necessary to save jobs.
The Prime Minister faced questions on whether Chancellor Rishi Sunak's popular discount scheme had led to surging infection rates as people piled into restaurants in August.
Treasury figures show more than 100 million meals were eaten under the scheme, which gave diners a 50% state-backed discount on meals up to £10 every Monday to Wednesday.
