Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson Hon FRIBA (born 19 June 1964) is a British politician, writer, and former journalist serving as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and Leader of the Conservative Party since 2019. He was Foreign Secretary from 2016 to 2018 and Mayor of London from 2008 to 2016. Johnson was Member of Parliament for Henley from 2001 to 2008 and has been MP for Uxbridge and South Ruislip since 2015. Ideologically, Johnson identifies as a one-nation conservative.

Bolton Conservative MP resigns from government position over handling of lockdown

Chris Green has resigned from his role as Parliamentary Private Secretary in the Department for Education. The Conservative MP has written a letter to Boris Johnson, telling the Prime Minister he disagrees with the government's handling of the coronavirus crisis.

In the letter, Mr Green states that "the damage done to physical and mental health as well as to livelihoods and businesses would be justified if the threat from Covid-19 was as first suggested" but says he believes that "the attempted cure is worse than the disease".

Mr Green, whose constituency includes areas such as Horwich, Westhoughton and Atherton, wrote: "The Covid-19 crisis has hit the country hard but we can only be impressed by the magnificent response by so many to get.
