Police have paid a black student £4,000 in damages after officers put him in a chokehold when they mistook him for a burglar.

Emmanuel Aigbe, 31, "struggled to breathe" as he was wrongly held on the floor by police officers on a night out with friends.

Data science student Mr Aigbe was "jumped on, trampled on and dropped on the floor" by police officers as he waited for a taxi.

His civil claim against police told how he felt bodies on top of him while suffering blows to his legs, stomach and groin as he fought for breath from the officer's chokehold.
