Birmingham City will have to meet a seven-figure repair bill before they can fully re-open St Andrew’s. The struggling Championship club has received a report from structural engineers into the problems that have brought about closure to two stands – and it makes for grim reading.
Birmingham admitted that there were issues with their stadium nine days before Christmas after an annual survey flagged up corrosion with the steelwork propping two of the stands at the ground.
Estimates for the work are expected to top the £1m-mark as the club seeks to make good on-going issues in the Kop and Tilton Road stands.
