SIMON Cowell said he "hates himself" and made a rare apology on live TV after his criticism left a young semi-finalist in TEARS.

The tough judge, 62, gave some firm feedback to magic act Matricks Illusion. He told them after their performance: "It wasn't magical enough.

There was a lot of chaos. We had a magic act on earlier in the week that was a lot better. This lacked, I don't know, star power for me." On the stage, the youngest member of the group Lamanna appeared looked visibly upset and on the brink of tears.

But later in the show, Simon profusely apologised on live TV and told viewers he had spoke with Lamanna backstage as she was clearly upset off camera too.
