Ben Halpern, a publicist for Paramount, United Artists, Filmways and Universal, died Saturday at his home in Los Angeles, his family announced.
He was 99. Halpern came to Los Angeles in 1973 when Universal upped him to vp publicity and advertising for television. He helped promote such shows as Columbo, Murder, She Wrote, Magnum P.I., The Rockford Files, Miami Vice, Ironside and Kojak and the Steven Spielberg telefilm Duel before he retired in 1988.
Born in New York City on Feb. 5, 1921, Halpern was charged with training soldiers to shoot and develop film for aerial reconnaissance as a member of the U.S.
