A man who assaulted a Tesco worker told police officers he couldn’t remember what had happened as he had “been drinking and consuming drugs.”Thomas Lynch admitted he assaulted a female Tesco employee in the Barrhead store on July 16, 2019 and on June 8, 2021, he shouted, swore, uttered threats of violence in Aurs Crescent, also in Barrhead, and at the police station.On the same date, the 26-year-old also admitted he resisted arrest.Paisley Sheriff Court heard: “Around 4pm on July 16, the witness who is a store manager saw the accused and a female within the store and she became concerned by their behaviour.“There was a suspicion that the couple were shoplifting.“The manager initially spoke with the female and asked to accompany her to a different area of the store.“Colleagues attended to assist when the female shouted at Lynch ‘She’s got a hold of me.’“Lynch then shouted at the staff ‘Leave my bird alone.’“He tried to separate his girlfriend from the store manager and in doing so, pushed her to the body resulting in a struggle.“Lynch initially left the store and then made his way back when staff members contacted police and they traced him at his home address in Barrhead three days later.“He was cautioned and charged and under caution he stated he had ‘been drinking and consuming drugs and didn’t remember the incident.’“CCTV confirmed there was no shoplifting.” Don't miss the latest headlines from around Renfrewshire.
