Barcelona president Joan Laporta has sensationally broken his silence on the European Super League proposals by backing his Real Madrid counterpart Florentino Perez.
As many of the 12 founding members of the failed breakaway league move to distance themselves from the plan and issue grovelling apologies, Barca have stood side by side with their La Liga rivals.
All six Premier League clubs formally withdrew their co-operation with the competition and now await their punishment from UEFA, which could be decided on Friday.
But rather than back away from the initiative, Laporta has doubled down on Perez's claims, by supporting the idea to the hilt. "[A Super League] is absolutely necessary.
