John Christopher Depp II (born June 9, 1963) is an American actor, singer, producer, and musician. He has been nominated for ten Golden Globe Awards, winning one for Best Actor for his performance of the title role in Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2008), and has been nominated for three Academy Awards for Best Actor, among other accolades. He is regarded as one of the world's biggest film stars. Depp made his film debut in the 1984 film A Nightmare on Elm Street, before rising to prominence as a teen idol on the television series 21 Jump Street (1987–1990). He had a supporting role in Oliver Stone's 1986 war film Platoon and played the title character in the 1990 romantic fantasy Edward Scissorhands.

THE Great British Bake Off sent home its fifth contestant in tonight’s episode leaving fans at home devastated. It was 59 year old Carole Edwards, a supermarket cashier from Dorset, who faced the chop from the Channel 4 baking contest.

At the halfway point of the competition, it was dessert week but it was ‘Compost Carole’ who under performed and found herself axed from by Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith.

Now, Carole has revealed the secret’s she told her family and friends as to why she disappeared when she was busy filming for the show in Welford Park - and it involves a couple of Hollywood A-listers.

Carole said: “I told my work colleagues I was on Jury service … then I changed it to say I was on the Johnny Depp trial!” The elaborate lie was to keep Carole’s participation in the show a secret, a requirement for all budding hopefuls.
