An unaudited version of the local authority's statement of accounts for the last financial year ending March 31, 2021 is due to be published by July 31.
External auditors would usually be expected to sign off the accounts by this time of year, but due to Covid, the deadline has been extended to September. READ MORE: Wigan Council paid out £375,000 to fraudulent claims for emergency Covid business support But Karen Murray, director of accountancy firm Mazars, told the audit, governance and standards committee on Thursday (July 22) that the company will not meet the deadline.
