Real Madrid's Champions League hero Thibaut Courtois has seen his Atletico Madrid 'legend' plaque ripped up after angering the fans of his former side with controversial comments. The big Belgian put in a stunning display in Paris on Saturday as Real Madrid edged out Liverpool to claim their 14th European crown.

Though Vinicius Junior proved to be the match-winner, netting the only goal of the showpiece, Courtois lapped up the acclaim for his performance in particular. The 30-year-old goalkeeper made a string of sublime saves throughout the contest to deny the Reds' relentless attack and ensure the Champions League trophy would return to the Spanish capital of Madrid - to the "good side", that is.In the build-up to the final, Courtois irked the supporters of Real's city rivals Atletico, the team he spent three seasons on loan at from Chelsea between 2011 and 2014, by making some provocative claims.Ahead of Saturday's showdown with Liverpool, the former Blues stopper expressed his desire to lift the continental crown having missed out in his only previous Champions League final when his current side Real beat his old one Atletico in 2014.

He also aimed a thinly-veiled dig in the latter's direction.Courtois controversially remarked: “To win it tomorrow, although for some it will be their first and others their fifth, I think for all the team there exists the same hope of winning and growing Real Madrid’s history.Do you think Atletico Madrid's fans were within their rights to vandalise the plaque?

Let us know in the comments section below“Liverpool already played against Real Madrid in 2018 and if you face Real Madrid, you know they win finals.
