Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes has hit out at the club’s “ungrateful” supporters following a backlash against Eddie Nketiah.The Gunners confirmed on Saturday that Nketiah had signed a new long-term contract with the club.
The 23-year-old had been set for the exit at the end of June, but his form at the back end of last season prompted a rethink, with Arsenal keen to hold onto him after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang left in January.
Nketiah scored five goals in the last seven Premier League games of Arsenal’s season and will be a key player for Mikel Arteta next season now Alexandre Lacazette’s exit has been confirmed.
But the reaction by a section of Gunners supporters to the news that Nketiah will wear the No14 shirt – made famous by club legend Thierry Henry – has prompted Gabriel to stick up for his team-mate.
